to the screen.
“My career has taken me from writers’ rooms and story-development environments to rehearsal rooms, classrooms and film sets.”
That experience connects story on the page with the practical realities of bringing it to screen. Haz has consulted on and script-doctored feature-length films both in Malaysia and internationally, working across independent and commercial productions and at different stages of development — from early treatments and structural development to full screenplay diagnosis, rewriting and narrative refinement.
Across international OTT work, Haz has contributed to more than 140 hours of long-form and serialised scripted drama, working in story development, script doctoring, writers’ rooms, narrative refinement, creative supervision and script quality control.
Her background in acting techniques and acting coaching adds another layer to the way she approaches story and character. It allows her to look beyond whether a scene simply “works” on the page and ask whether a character has enough inner life, emotional depth, vulnerability, contradiction and playable intention for an actor to bring truthfully to the screen. She is particularly attentive to scenes where the emotional stakes remain on the surface, character behaviour feels under-motivated, or vulnerability has not yet been fully earned through the writing.
Her development work spans drama, horror, science fiction, psychological thriller, action, family drama and historical/biographical features, alongside short-form and experimental narrative. This breadth allows her to move between intimate, character-led storytelling and larger commercial genre narratives while remaining focused on the emotional truth, structure and dramatic engine at the heart of the story.

Emotional architecture
A screenplay can be structurally sound and still fail to move us. Haz looks at whether relationships, choices, wounds and consequences have earned the emotional moments the story wants its audience to feel.
Conventional structure is not a requirement. Fragmented, nonlinear, poetic, hybrid and experimental forms are welcome. The question is whether the chosen form creates the intended audience experience.

Industry contribution
In 2025, Haz was appointed to a FINAS board committee and Script Development Grant Approval Committee, contributing to the assessment of script-development applications and projects seeking industry support.

The role is not to impose the film Haz would make. It is to understand the filmmaker’s intention, recognise what is already working, uncover what may be holding it back and offer a clearer path forward.
